If you love the Hill Country, lakes and being close to Austin, then this is your city! Bee Cave didn't technically exist until 1987 however it grew out of an idea where people could live outside of the big city, yet close to town. In the 1850's a family of Dietrich Bohls moved out of Austin to a new home near Barton Creek and Little Barton Creek. With only a population of 900 people at the time, it certainly was small town living! Back in the 1850's there were a majority of Indians that had settled the land near Bee Cave and what is known as Lake Travis today. The Bohls family was one of the first families to settle on the land that would become the City of Bee Cave. The City of Bee Cave encompassed a two-square-mile area with 8,800 acres of extraterritorial jurisdiction in 1987 and has continued growing by leaps and bounds today where it's crown jewel - the Galleria, has become a shopping haven and mecca for families around the surrounding Spicewood, Lakeway and Austin area.
